Key takeaways
- All strollers sold in the US must meet 16 CFR part 1227, which adopts ASTM F833. Meeting it doesn't mean every stroller fits every use.
- Only a jogging stroller is built for running. The BOB Alterrain Pro maker says jogging starts at 8 months, and the Baby Jogger double on this list says it isn't intended for jogging.
- Compact folds run from 16.7 lb (UPPAbaby Minu V3) to 13.7 lb (Stokke YOYO3 6+). The Cruz V3 is 26.5 lb.
- No CPSC recall turned up for any model here on October 16, 2026. UPPAbaby's 2022 Ridge recall and 2015 Cruz and Vista recall don't cover the V3 models.
- Always use the harness, and don't leave a baby alone in a stroller, especially reclined. CPSC says infants as young as a few weeks old can move when asleep.
Every stroller sold in the US has to meet the same federal safety rule, 16 CFR part 1227, which adopts the ASTM F833 standard [1]. So the right stroller is the one that matches how you'll use it: daily errands, flights, running or two kids. These picks are grouped by use, not ranked.

The picks, by use
CPSC's recall database turned up no recall for any model below on October 16, 2026 [3]. Recalls can be added at any time, so search again after you buy.
Full-size, everyday: UPPAbaby Cruz V3
The Cruz V3 weighs 26.5 pounds with the seat (17 for the frame, 9.5 for the seat) and folds to 17 by 22.5 by 32.5 inches with the seat on [5]. It carries a child up to 50 pounds and 40 inches [5]. UPPAbaby lists it as suitable from birth, with a lay-flat seat and a one-handed multi-position recline [5]. The bassinet and the Mesa and Aria infant seats attach without adapters [5]. Wheels are never-flat tires with FlexRide suspension [5].
Not for: Anyone who wants a second seat. For that, see the Vista V3 below. The Cruz also isn't for running.

Lightweight and overhead-bin friendly: UPPAbaby Minu V3
At 16.7 pounds, the Minu V3 is the lightest full-featured stroller here that's listed from birth, with a foot barrier and a deep recline that lies flat [7]. It folds with one hand to 10 by 18 by 21.5 inches and stands on its own [7]. UPPAbaby says it's IATA compatible and fits in overhead bins [7]. That's the maker's claim, so check your airline's size limit. It holds up to 50 pounds [7]. Adapters fit Aria, Mesa, Maxi-Cosi, Nuna and Cybex infant seats [7].
Not for: Rough ground. The maker doesn't state wheel size, so check the manual if your routes are bumpy.

Smallest fold for travel: Stokke YOYO3 (6+ months)
The YOYO3 6+ weighs 13.7 pounds and folds to 20.5 by 17.3 by 7.1 inches [8]. Stokke says that folded size is at or under most airlines' cabin luggage allowance, and tells you to check your airline [8]. It holds up to 48.5 pounds in the US and Canada, has elastomer suspension on all four wheels, and the 6+ seat has a multi-position recline (Stokke doesn't publish the angles) [8].
The 6+ version starts at 6 months. For a newborn, Stokke sells the frame with a newborn pack separately [8]. Check that bundle before you buy.
Not for: Parents who want a big basket or an infant car seat that clicks in without extra parts.

Jogging: BOB Gear Alterrain Pro
The Alterrain Pro has a 12-inch front wheel and two 16-inch rear air-filled tires, SmoothShox suspension and a near-flat recline you adjust with one hand [9]. It holds up to 75 pounds and 44 inches, so it lasts into the preschool years [9]. It weighs 32.3 pounds and folds to 39.3 by 25.5 by 16 inches with the wheels on [9].
BOB's page says "From 8 months in stroller seat (jogging/off-road)" [9]. We found no AAP age rule for running with a stroller, so follow the maker's age and ask your pediatrician. Infant seat adapters are sold for several brands [9].
Not for: Small trunks and tight apartments. It's the heaviest and largest pick here.

Double that starts as a single: UPPAbaby Vista V3
The Vista V3 weighs 27.6 pounds with the seat and folds to 16.3 by 25.7 by 33.8 inches [6]. The toddler seat holds 50 pounds and 40 inches [6]. With a bassinet or infant SnugSeat it works from birth, and the Mesa and Aria seats attach without adapters [6]. UPPAbaby says it takes up to three children with RumbleSeat and PiggyBack accessories [6]. Those are sold separately, so a second seat adds to the cost.
Not for: Families who want two seats in the box. The base Vista V3 is a single stroller until you add accessories.

Double, side by side: Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double
Each seat holds up to 50 pounds, with a near-flat recline and adjustable calf supports [10]. It runs on air-filled tires with all-wheel suspension, and Baby Jogger says you can build a travel system with most Britax, Cybex, Graco and Maxi-Cosi infant seats using adapters [10]. Its page doesn't give a weight or folded size, so look at the manual before you check your trunk [10].
Baby Jogger says plainly: "Stroller is not intended for jogging" [10].
Not for: Narrow doorways. Open width is 29.25 inches [10]. Also not for runners.

Budget: Baby Trend Tango
The Tango is 20.15 pounds, folds to 23 by 31 by 17 inches and holds up to 50 pounds and 42 inches [11]. It has dual frame suspension and EVA tires [11]. Baby Trend recommends use of the stroller seat from 6 months, with the upright position for children 6 months and older [11]. For a younger baby, its tray takes a Baby Trend Ally 35 infant seat, sold separately [11].
Not for: A newborn without an infant seat, or rough ground.

How to choose a stroller
Start with when you'll use it. Newborn stage, errands, air travel, running or a second child each push you toward a different pick. CPSC says strollers are normally used by children from infancy to 36 months [1].
Check the weight and the fold. Think about what you can carry up your steps and fit in your trunk. The folded size on a maker's page is often with the seat attached or removed, so read which.
Match the seat to your baby. For a newborn, look for a lay-flat seat, a bassinet or an infant car seat that clicks in. Our infant car seat picks list which seats go with which strollers. A car seat is for travel only, not for sleeping or feeding outside the car, says the AAP [4].
Ask what's included. Rain covers, adapters, bassinets and second seats are often extra.
Plan the rest of the list. Add it to your baby registry checklist, and see our baby carrier picks if you want hands-free for short trips.

Safety and recalls
The federal standard. 16 CFR part 1227 adopts ASTM F833, and strollers made after February 15, 2022 follow ASTM F833-21 [1]. It covers parking brakes, stability, restraints, wheel detachment, latching, openings and labeling, including the model name and date of manufacture [1].
Use the harness every time. CPSC says to use the harness whenever a child is in a stroller, and not to leave a child alone, especially in a reclined or flat seat [2]. Keep a child's hands clear when you fold or unfold it [2].
Recall check. On October 16, 2026, we searched CPSC's recall database for each brand and model on this page and found no recall of these models [3]. For history: UPPAbaby recalled all Ridge jogging strollers in 2022 for a fingertip amputation hazard [12] and 2015 Cruz, Vista and RumbleSeat strollers for a choking hazard [13]. Neither covers the V3 strollers above. Baby Jogger also recalled older City Mini and City Versa strollers in 2009 and 2012 [3]. If you buy used, check the label date and search the model.
Used strollers. A used stroller is fine if it has its label, works properly and has no open recall. If you're after a free or low-cost option, see our guide to free baby stuff.
Car seat rules. If you're pairing a stroller with an infant seat, review car seat laws by state, our guide to car seat expiration dates and the infant vs convertible seat comparison.
The full list since 2010 is on stroller recalls.
Questions people ask
What is the best stroller for a newborn?
One where the seat lies flat or takes a bassinet or infant car seat. Of the picks here, the Cruz V3, Vista V3 and Minu V3 are listed by the maker as suitable from birth. The Stokke YOYO3 6+ and Baby Trend Tango start at 6 months unless you add a newborn pack or an infant seat.
Can I run with a regular stroller?
Only with a stroller the maker says is for jogging. Baby Jogger, for one, says its City Mini GT2 Double is not intended for jogging. Follow the maker's minimum age: BOB says 8 months for jogging in the Alterrain Pro seat. Ask your pediatrician too.
What's the best double stroller?
It depends on the ages. A side-by-side like the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double suits two kids of similar size. A convertible like the UPPAbaby Vista V3 starts as a single stroller and adds a second seat later, so it fits a baby plus a toddler.
What stroller can I take on a plane?
Most strollers are gate-checked. Stokke says the folded YOYO3 is at or under most airlines' cabin luggage allowance, and UPPAbaby says the Minu V3 is IATA compatible and fits overhead bins. Those are maker claims, so check your airline's size rules before you fly.
How do I check a stroller for recalls?
Search the brand and model at SaferProducts.gov, or look through CPSC's recall list. The model name and date of manufacture are on the label. Strollers made after February 15, 2022 must follow ASTM F833-21.
