What a midwife does
Midwives give prenatal care, attend births and care for you and the baby afterward. Many also do well-person gynecology visits.
Certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are registered nurses with graduate training and work in hospitals, birth centers and homes. Certified professional midwives (CPMs) mostly attend births at home and in birth centers, and whether they're licensed depends on the state.
