Privacy policy

The short version

You can search the directory, read guides and use our calculators without giving us any personal information. We collect personal information only when you send it through a form or sign in as a provider. We don't sell it, and we don't run ad tracking.

What we collect

• Forms. When you send a contact message, we receive what you type: usually your name, email, phone if you give it, and your message. Contact messages are processed by Netlify Forms, our hosting provider's form service.
• Provider accounts. If you sign in as a provider, we store your email address, your sign-in sessions (a secure cookie, with the IP address and browser recorded for each session) and a record of the changes and decisions on your listings.
• Claim and removal requests. Your role, the credential you give us (for example a license, IBCLC or certification number), a phone number, any document you upload and any note. We use them only to confirm you're the provider, and we delete uploaded documents 90 days after we decide.
• Messages to providers. When you use “Contact this provider”, we store your name, email, phone if you give it and your message, and email them to that provider. We keep a copy for 12 months so the provider can find it and we can handle delivery problems or abuse. To stop spam we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, not the address itself.
• Calculators. The benefits checker and childcare cost lookup run in your browser. The income, household size and location you enter are not sent to us or stored.
• Location search. If you choose to search by your location, your browser shares an approximate location with the page to sort results nearby. It isn't sent to our servers.
• Server logs. Netlify, which hosts the site, processes standard technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver and protect the site.

What we don't do

• We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third-party analytics. The only cookie we set is a sign-in cookie, and only for providers who sign in.
• We don't sell, rent or share personal information for advertising.
• We never sell or share a message you send a provider with anyone but that provider.
• We don't ask for health information, and we ask you not to put any in a form.

If we add analytics or advertising in the future, we'll update this policy first and ask for consent where the law requires it.

• To reply to your message
• To deliver your message to the provider you chose
• To verify and process a provider's request to claim, correct or remove a listing
• To publish the details a provider adds to their listing, after we review them
• To fix errors you report in a guide, a benefit figure or a listing

Services we use

Netlify hosts the site and processes contact forms. Supabase stores provider accounts, listing changes, messages and uploaded files. Resend delivers our emails. Each handles data only to provide that service to us.

Information about providers

Directory listings come from public records, mainly the federal NPI registry. For privacy, individual providers and home-based practices are shown by city and phone only, never by street address. Providers can claim their listing to correct or add details, or ask us to remove it, from the listing's claim page.

Partner links

Some guides include a labeled link to a partner, such as a breast pump supplier. If you click one, you leave our site, and anything you share there is covered by that company's privacy policy. We don't send partners anything you typed here. See our affiliate disclosure.

Your choices

To see, correct or delete information you've sent us, email hello@themomsite.com. Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you more rights, and we honor those requests.

Providers can delete their account from the account page. That removes the account, its sign-in sessions and listing access, and the claims and removal requests it made. Details already published on a listing stay, because they describe the practice; ask us to change or remove them. We keep a log of who approved what, to resolve ownership disputes.

Children

The site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

When this policy changes, we post the new version here and update the date at the top.
