Why we built this

When you're pregnant or have a new baby, the hard questions are often practical ones. Is there a doula near me, and will Medicaid pay for one? What does a birth center cost? Can I get a breast pump through my insurance? Do I qualify for WIC, and how much paid leave does my state give me? The answers exist, but they're spread across federal registries, state agency sites and insurer policies.

The Mom Site brings them together and leads with the answer.

The directory

The directory lists 18,635 doulas, 7,818 lactation consultants, 11,262 midwives, 676 birth centers and 2,348 hospitals with labor and delivery. It's built from the federal NPI registry and CMS hospital data, and it flags providers on 5 state Medicaid doula lists and birth centers accredited by the CABC. Read how we build the directory.

Families never pay to search, and providers never pay to be listed. We don't rate or rank providers, and we don't take bookings. You call the provider directly.

Costs and benefits

For every state and DC we track Medicaid for pregnancy, WIC, paid family leave, and Medicaid coverage for doulas and lactation support, with the source and the month we checked each one. When we can't confirm a state's rule, we say so. Start with benefits by state or the benefits checker.

The guides

Our guides answer the cost and coverage questions people actually search for, from what care costs to what insurance covers. Each one is written by The Mom Site editorial team with numbered sources. Read our editorial policy, including how we use AI tools.

How we make money

Some guides include a labeled partner link, such as a breast pump supplier on our breast pump guide. Partners never affect listings or what a guide says. If we add advertising or sponsored placements, they'll be labeled. See our affiliate disclosure.
