Short answer

Maxi-Cosi infant seats (Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Mico 30, Peri 180) are good for 8 years from the manufacture date, and the Pria all-in-one and Romi convertible for 10, with the Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base fitting the Mico family and the Peri 180 using its own rotating base. NHTSA lists six Maxi-Cosi recall campaigns since 2010, none on a current Mico Pro, Peri 180, Pria or Romi.

Key takeaways

  • Maxi-Cosi's infant seats (Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Mico 30, Peri 180) are 8 years from the date of manufacture. The Pria all-in-one, Romi convertible and RodiSport booster are 10 [3][4][5][6][7][8][17].
  • The Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base fits Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Mico Luxe, Luxe+, Max Plus, Max 30, XP Max and Mico 30. The Peri 180 only fits its own rotating base [9][12][14].
  • Infant limits are 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches. Pria goes 5 to 40 pounds rear-facing, 30 to 65 forward-facing and 40 to 100 as a booster. Romi is 5 to 40 rear-facing and 30 to 50 forward-facing [10][15][16].
  • NHTSA records show six Maxi-Cosi campaigns since 2010, including 2023 recalls on the lower anchors of older Mico bases and the Coral XP. None names a current Mico Pro, Peri 180, Pria or Romi [18][19][20][21][22][23].
  • Maxi-Cosi, Safety 1st and Cosco all belong to Dorel Juvenile, so the manuals share the same expiration and crash wording [2].

A Maxi-Cosi infant car seat is good for 8 years from the date it was made, and the Pria and Romi convertibles are good for 10 [3][4][5][7][8]. Bases are the other common question: the Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base fits the Mico family, and the Peri 180 only fits its own rotating base [12][14].

We don't test car seats. This guide comes from Maxi-Cosi's product pages and user guides, read on October 16, 2026, and NHTSA's recall records.

How long is a Maxi-Cosi car seat good for?

Maxi-Cosi says its car seats' expiration dates range from eight to twelve years, depending on the product. Many have a sticker on the back with the date of manufacture, and the lifespan is in your manual [1]. In the guides we read, none went past 10 years.

Seat Type Expires after
Mico Pro Infant 8 years [4]
Mico Pro+ Infant 8 years [5]
Mico 30 Infant 8 years [6]
Peri 180 Rotating infant 8 years [3]
Pria All-in-one 10 years [7]
Romi 2-in-1 convertible 10 years [8]
RodiSport Booster 10 years [17]

The count starts on the manufacture date, not your purchase date. A Mico Pro made in January 2025 should stop being used in January 2033. Our car seat expiration guide compares Maxi-Cosi with 10 other brands.

Maxi-Cosi, Safety 1st and Cosco are all brands of Dorel Juvenile [2]. Our Safety 1st guide and Cosco guide cover the other two.

Maxi-Cosi weight and height limits

These come from Maxi-Cosi's product pages. Your label and manual are the final word, and the maker notes that not every child fits comfortably across the full range.

Seat Rear-facing Forward-facing (harness) Booster
Mico Pro [10] 4 to 30 lb, up to 32 in n/a n/a
Mico Pro+ [11] 4 to 30 lb, up to 32 in n/a n/a
Peri 180 [9] 4 to 30 lb, up to 32 in n/a n/a
Pria [15] 5 to 40 lb, 19 to 40 in 30 to 65 lb, 34.4 to 49 in 40 to 100 lb, 43.4 to 52 in
Romi [16] 5 to 40 lb, 19 to 40 in 30 to 50 lb, 34.4 to 44 in n/a

Maxi-Cosi says the Peri 180 weighs under 8 pounds without its canopy and inserts, which weigh about 1 pound together [9]. The Pria page says it meets the federal side-impact standard [15].

Maxi-Cosi infant car seat base: which one fits?

The base is the part that stays in your car. The carrier clicks in and out, and a second base lets you switch vehicles or caregivers without reinstalling. Maxi-Cosi sells three bases that matter here:

Base Fits What Maxi-Cosi lists
Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base (IC385) [12] Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Mico Luxe, Mico Luxe+, Mico Max Plus, Mico Max 30, Mico XP Max and Mico 30 MaxiLock, self-retracting one-click LATCH, anti-rotation stability leg, red-to-green tightness indicators, integrated belt lock-off
Mico Stand-Alone Infant Car Seat Base (IC290) [13] Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Mico Max 30 and Mico 30 Integrated LATCH connectors
Peri 180 Rotating Infant Car Seat Base (IC402) [14] Peri 180 only (seat sold separately) 180-degree FlexiSpin rotation, TensionFix indicators, anti-rotation load leg, self-retracting LATCH, belt lock-off

Two points that answer most "car seat and base" questions:

  • The Peri 180 seat comes with one base. Maxi-Cosi's Peri 180 page says one base is included with each infant seat [9]. The Mico Pro and Mico Pro+ pages describe a 3-position adjustable base and a LATCH system as part of the seat [10][11], but confirm on the listing you're buying that a base is in the box.
  • Bases from different families don't mix. The Peri 180 base page lists compatibility with the Peri 180 only [14]. The other two lists above name Mico models only [12][13].

The base product pages don't state an expiration, so check the label on your base.

Maxi-Cosi installation basics

Follow the manual that came with your seat and your vehicle owner's manual. These are the points Maxi-Cosi's guides stress.

  1. Pick one method. Install with LATCH or the vehicle belt, never both at the same time [3].
  2. Use the load leg when it reaches the floor. The Peri 180 guide says the base install is equally safe with or without the load leg, and that load legs reduce downward rotation and add stability in a crash. Don't use it if it doesn't reach the vehicle floor [3].
  3. Check for movement. If the base moves more than 1 inch side to side at the belt path, pull the belt tighter, reinstall, try another seating position, or switch methods [3].
  4. Use the tension indicators. The Peri 180 and its base have a red-to-green TensionFix indicator that shows when the belt has tension [9][14].
  5. Check head and harness position. Rear-facing, the top of your child's head must be at least 1 inch below the top of the seat, and the harness strap should be at or slightly below the shoulder [4].
  6. Going without the base. The Mico Pro page describes belt guides for installing without the base, which Maxi-Cosi calls taxi mode [10]. On a plane, both the Mico Pro and Peri 180 guides say the seat can only be installed in an aircraft without the base [3][4].

A certified technician can check your install, often for free. NHTSA's car seat page links to inspection stations at nhtsa.gov. For what your state requires, see our car seat laws guide.

Maxi-Cosi car seat recalls

We searched NHTSA's recall records on October 16, 2026 and found six campaigns since 2010 that name Maxi-Cosi seats. This is the list we found, not a promise there are no others. Check your own model on NHTSA's recall search [25].

Campaign Year Maxi-Cosi seats Issue Fix
23C-003 [19] 2023 Coral XP, model IC313 Inner carrier can't restrain a child without the outer carrier Use the inner carrier only when attached to the outer carrier
23C-002 [18] 2023 Mico XP, Mico XP Max, Mico Luxe+, Coral XP and Maxi-Cosi Infant Base (Safety 1st seats also covered) Lower anchors on the base can fail, so the seat can detach Free replacement base; use the vehicle belt until then
21C-004 [20] 2021 Pria 70 Forward-facing with lap belt and no top tether may not protect the head Free labels and instructions, plus a free RodiSport booster
21C-003 [21] 2021 Pria 85 Same tether issue as the Pria 70 NHTSA's record says no remedy had been established when filed
11C-001 [22] 2011 Mico and onBoard infant seats and several Dorel convertibles and boosters Harness adjuster button can stay unlocked, loosening the harness Free lubricant kit and label
10C-001 [23] 2010 Mico infant seats built Feb to June 2008 and base 22-515 Shell can be hard to attach to or detach from the base Free spring kit

None of these campaigns names a current Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Peri 180, Pria or Romi. The Pria 70 and 85 are older models, and the 2023 base recall covers older Mico XP, Mico Luxe+ and Coral XP bases [18][20][21]. Dorel's recall line in the 2021 and 2023 campaigns was 1-877-657-9546 [18][20].

Register your seat

Maxi-Cosi's guides say child restraints can be recalled, and that you must register to be reached. Mail the card in the box, call 1-800-544-1108, or register at djgusa.com/registration/carseat/us. You can also call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 [3][4][25].

See the NHTSA list with links on our Maxi-Cosi car seat recalls page.

When to replace a Maxi-Cosi seat early

An expiration date is the latest you can use a seat, not a guarantee. Dorel Juvenile Group strongly recommends replacing the seat even after a minor crash, even if it was empty. The guide adds that you may not need to replace it if the crash meets all five of NHTSA's minor-crash conditions, and that you must replace it after a moderate or severe crash [3][4][24]. Also replace it if labels, parts or the manual are missing, or if it has an open recall.

Questions people ask

How long is a Maxi-Cosi car seat good for?

Eight years for the infant seats we checked (Mico Pro, Mico Pro+, Mico 30, Peri 180) and 10 years for the Pria, Romi and RodiSport. Maxi-Cosi says its seats range from 8 to 12 years depending on the product, so read your manual [1][3][4][7].

Does a Maxi-Cosi infant car seat base fit every Maxi-Cosi infant seat?

No. The Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base fits the Mico family. The Peri 180 only fits the Peri 180 base. Check the compatibility list on the base's page before buying a second one [12][14].

Can I use a Maxi-Cosi infant seat without the base?

Yes, with the vehicle belt. Maxi-Cosi's Mico Pro page describes belt guides for installing without the base, and the Peri 180 guide has a without-base install. On an airplane, both guides say to install without the base [3][4][10].

Where is the expiration date on a Maxi-Cosi car seat?

On a date-of-manufacture label. On the Mico and Peri 180 infant seats it's on the back or side of the seat. Add the years in your manual to that date to find when it expires [1][3][4].

How do I install a Maxi-Cosi car seat base?

Pick either LATCH or the vehicle belt, not both, and use the load leg when it reaches the floor. The base should move no more than 1 inch side to side at the belt path. Maxi-Cosi's red-to-green tension indicators help you confirm the fit [3][9][14].

Has Maxi-Cosi had car seat recalls?

Yes. NHTSA lists six campaigns since 2010, from the 2008-built Mico base springs to the 2023 recalls of the lower anchors on certain Mico and Maxi-Cosi base models and the Coral XP inner carrier. Check your model number on NHTSA [18][19][23][25].
