Key takeaways
- Cosco's Scenera NEXT and Scenera Extend are 8 years from the date of manufacture. The ShadeVenture, Easy Elite Slim, Entrada and Finale are 10 [2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
- The label with the manufacture date is on the side of the seat. Add the manual's years to that date to get the expiration [2][4][5].
- Scenera Extend limits are 5 to 40 pounds rear-facing and 30 to 50 pounds forward-facing. The older Scenera NEXT forward-facing limit is 40 pounds [1][4].
- The Scenera is a travel favorite because Cosco lists it as certified for aircraft use and slim enough to fit three across. The FAA says to look for its approval label [1][2][17].
- Cosco, Safety 1st and Maxi-Cosi are all Dorel Juvenile brands. We found no child seat recall naming a Cosco model in NHTSA's records since 2010 [16][19].
A Cosco car seat is good for 8 or 10 years from the day it was made. The Scenera NEXT and Scenera Extend are 8 years. The ShadeVenture, Easy Elite Slim, Entrada and Finale are 10 [2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
We don't test car seats. This guide comes from Cosco's product pages and manuals, read on October 16, 2026, plus FAA guidance and NHTSA's recall records.
Cosco car seat expiration date: 8 or 10 years
Cosco's manuals all say the same thing in different numbers: do not use the seat more than 8 or 10 years after the date of manufacture, and the date is on a label on the side of the seat [2][4][5]. Cosco's product pages don't state a lifespan, so the manual or the seat is where to look.
| Seat | Type | Expires after |
|---|---|---|
| Scenera Extend | 2-in-1 convertible | 8 years [2][3] |
| Scenera NEXT | Convertible (replaced by Scenera Extend) | 8 years [4] |
| ShadeVenture 2-in-1 | 2-in-1 convertible | 10 years [5] |
| Easy Elite Slim | All-in-one | 10 years [6] |
| Entrada | Convertible | 10 years [7] |
| Finale 2-in-1 and Finale DX | Harness and belt-positioning booster | 10 years [8] |
| MightyFit 65 | Convertible (not on Cosco's current catalog) | 8 or 10 years, depending on which manual copy [9][10] |
The MightyFit 65 needs a note. Two copies of its manual say different things: a copy hosted by Lowe's (revision 5.14.19) says 10 years, and a copy hosted by a car seat safety group says 8 [9][10]. Cosco's current convertible catalog doesn't list the MightyFit [15]. If you own one, read the date and the "do not use" wording on the seat itself, or call Cosco.
For the same data across 10 other brands, see our car seat expiration guide. Cosco, Safety 1st and Maxi-Cosi are all Dorel Juvenile brands [16], and our Safety 1st guide and Maxi-Cosi guide cover the other two.
Where is the date on a Cosco car seat?
Look on the side of the seat for the date-of-manufacture label. The manuals show it there on the Scenera NEXT, Scenera Extend, ShadeVenture, Easy Elite Slim, Entrada, Finale and MightyFit [2][4][5][6][7][8][9]. The same label carries the model number, which you need to check for recalls or order parts [4].
To work out the expiration, add the years from your manual to the manufacture date. A Scenera Extend made on June 1, 2025 expires June 1, 2033. A ShadeVenture made the same day expires in 2035.
No label? Without a date and model number, you can't check for recalls or know the seat's age. Replace it.
Cosco weight and height limits
These come from Cosco's product pages and manuals. Your label and manual are the final word.
| Seat | Rear-facing | Forward-facing (harness) | Booster |

| Scenera NEXT [4] | 5 to 40 lb, 19 to 40 in | 22 to 40 lb, 29 to 43 in, at least 1 year old | n/a |
| ShadeVenture [11] | 5 to 40 lb, 19 to 40 in | 30 to 50 lb, 34.4 to 44 in | n/a |
| Easy Elite Slim [12] | 5 to 40 lb, 19 to 40 in | 30 to 65 lb, 34.4 to 49 in | 40 to 100 lb, 43.4 to 52 in |
| Entrada [13] | Infant 5 to 30 lb, toddler 30 to 40 lb | 30 to 65 lb | n/a |
| Finale 2-in-1 [14] | n/a | Harness booster 40 to 65 lb, 43.4 to 49 in | 40 to 100 lb, 43.4 to 52 in |
| MightyFit 65 [10] | 5 to 40 lb, 19 to 40 in | 22 to 65 lb, 29 to 49 in, at least 1 year old | n/a |
Notes that matter when you're picking between Cosco seats:
- Scenera NEXT vs Scenera Extend. The Extend raises the forward-facing range to 30 to 50 pounds and up to 44 inches. The NEXT stopped at 40 pounds and 43 inches [3][4].
- Rear-facing head room. On the Extend, the child's head must be at least 1 inch below the top of the seat shell, and the child must reach the weight or height limit before turning forward-facing [3].
- Where Scenera stops. If you want a seat that carries a child to 65 pounds forward-facing or into booster mode, Cosco's Easy Elite Slim covers 5 to 100 pounds [12]. Our convertible car seat guide compares those seats with other brands.
- Infant seats. The tables here are Cosco's convertibles and boosters. For rear-facing-only carriers across brands, see our infant car seat guide.
Why the Cosco Scenera is popular for travel
Three things explain it. We rely only on Cosco's own statements and FAA guidance here.
- Certified for aircraft use. Cosco lists the Scenera Extend as certified for use on an aircraft [1]. The user guide repeats it and adds the airline instructions: use a window seat so you don't block the aisle, ask the flight attendant for a belt extender if the lap belt is too short, and install it only on a forward-facing aircraft seat [2].
- Slim and compact. Cosco says the Extend's space-saving design makes more room in the back seat and that it fits 3 across in most vehicles. It calls the design lightweight and compact [1].
- It has the label the airline looks for. The FAA says to look for a label reading "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft." It also says the safest place for a child under 2 is an approved child car seat, that the seat must be in a window seat and not an exit row, and that booster seats and backless restraints aren't allowed during taxi, takeoff and landing [17].
Cosco says the ShadeVenture is also certified for aircraft use [11]. Booster seats aren't allowed during taxi, takeoff and landing, per the FAA, so a seat in booster mode can't be used on the plane [17]. Confirm the label on your own seat and your airline's policy.
Cosco car seat recalls
We searched NHTSA's bulk recall file for Cosco and Cosco-branded child seats, updated through October 9, 2026, and found no child seat campaign naming a Cosco model since 2010. This is what we found, not a promise: check your model number and date on NHTSA's recall search [19].
One caution. The 2011 harness adjuster campaign (11C-001) covered a long list of Dorel Juvenile infant, convertible and booster seats by model number. If your Cosco seat is old, look your model number up [20]. Dorel's recalls from 2021 to 2025 name Maxi-Cosi and Safety 1st seats, and none names a Cosco seat [19].
Register your seat
Cosco's manuals say child restraints can be recalled and that you must register to be notified. Mail the card that came with the seat, call 1-800-544-1108, or register online at djgusa.com/registration/carseat/us. You can also call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 [4][19].
When to replace a Cosco seat early
An expiration date is the latest you can use a seat. The Scenera NEXT manual says not to use a seat that has been in a crash and to get a new one [4]. NHTSA is narrower: a seat may not need replacing after a minor crash if all five of its conditions are met, but a moderate or severe crash always means replacement [18]. When the manual and NHTSA differ, follow the manual. Also replace a seat that's missing labels, parts or the manual, or has an open recall.

Questions people ask
How long is a Cosco car seat good for?
Eight or ten years from the date of manufacture. The Scenera NEXT and Scenera Extend manuals say 8 years. The ShadeVenture, Easy Elite Slim, Entrada and Finale manuals say 10 [2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
Where is the expiration date on a Cosco car seat?
Look for the date-of-manufacture label on the side of the seat. The manual tells you how many years to add to it. Cosco's manuals say not to use the seat more than 8 or 10 years after that date [2][4][5].
How long is a Cosco Scenera good for?
Eight years from the manufacture date, for both the Scenera NEXT and the current Scenera Extend. That's shorter than the 10 years on Cosco's ShadeVenture, Easy Elite Slim and Finale [2][3][4][5].
What are the weight limits on the Cosco Scenera NEXT and Scenera Extend?
Both go 5 to 40 pounds and 19 to 40 inches rear-facing. Forward-facing, the Scenera NEXT is 22 to 40 pounds and the Scenera Extend is 30 to 50 pounds, up to 44 inches [1][3][4].
What is the weight limit on the Cosco MightyFit 65?
The manuals we found give 5 to 40 pounds rear-facing and 22 to 65 pounds forward-facing, up to 49 inches. It isn't on Cosco's current car seat pages, and the manual copies disagree on its lifespan, 8 or 10 years, so read the label on your seat [9][10][15].
Has Cosco had car seat recalls?
We searched NHTSA's recall records for Cosco-branded child seats on October 16, 2026 and found none since 2010. The Dorel recalls we found are on Safety 1st and Maxi-Cosi seats, but check your own model number and date [19][20].
