Key takeaways
- ClickTight installs a Britax seat in three steps: open the ClickTight panel, thread and buckle the vehicle seat belt, close the panel. Britax says seat belt installs have no weight limit, while lower connectors do.
- Britax infant seats (Willow, Willow S, Willow SC, Cypress) fit 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches, and expire 6 years after manufacture, bases included.
- Convertibles (Poplar, Poplar S, Galaxy360 Slim) and the One4Life all-in-one last 10 years. Grow With You harness-2-booster seats last 9.
- NHTSA lists eight Britax recalls since 2010. The newest are 26C006 (114,660 B-Safe and Endeavours infant seats, carry handle) and 24C-001 (One4Life Slim labels, built July 10 to 15, 2024).
- Have a certified technician check your install. NHTSA's Car Seat Inspection Finder lists free inspection stations and virtual inspectors.
Britax makes infant, convertible, all-in-one and harness-2-booster seats, and nearly all of them share one install system, ClickTight. This guide covers the questions owners search most: how to install, what each model fits, when it expires, and which recalls exist. Limits and lifespans come from Britax's own pages [1][3]. We research seats; we haven't installed or tested them.
How do you install a Britax car seat?
Most current Britax seats use ClickTight, which Britax calls a self-tensioning system that takes the guesswork out of installation [2]. It works the same way for rear-facing and forward-facing installs on convertibles [2].
- Open the ClickTight panel on the seat (on infant seats, the base).
- Thread and buckle the vehicle seat belt through the belt path.
- Close the panel. This tensions the belt for you.
That's Britax's three-step description: open, thread and buckle, close [2]. A few rules from Britax's pages and FAQ:
- Seat belt or lower connectors, never both. Britax says to choose whichever gives the most secure install and not to use both at once [9].
- Seat belt installs have no weight limit. Lower connectors do. Britax suggests the seat belt for convertibles, all-in-ones and harness-2-boosters, because a growing child will likely pass the lower connector limit [2]. On the One4Life, a 2024 recall corrected the rear-facing lower anchor limit to 35 pounds (see recalls below) [12].
- Belt locking. On Aspen and Alpine infant bases, Britax says you don't need to manually lock a lap-shoulder belt when using ClickTight. A lap-only belt must be locked per your vehicle manual [9].
- Check the indicator window. Infant seats and bases have a window that shows when the install is right, though Britax notes it varies by model, so follow your user guide [2].
- Arbor is different. The Arbor infant seat uses a StayTight base with a lever-activated tensioner. It isn't ClickTight and doesn't work with ClickTight bases [9].
Installing a Britax infant seat without the base
Britax says the Willow, Willow S, Willow SC and Cypress can be installed without a base using a lap-shoulder belt (with or without the European belt guide) or a lap-only belt [9]. Lock the belt as your vehicle manual directs, and use the level indicator to check recline.
Get the install checked
The AAP and NHTSA both point parents to certified child passenger safety technicians [13][14]. NHTSA's Car Seat Inspection Finder lists inspection stations and virtual inspectors by ZIP code, usually at no charge [13]. Bring the seat, the manual and your vehicle. Our car seat laws guide covers what your state requires.
Britax weight and height limits by model
Limits differ by seat and stage. These come from each model's Britax product page or FAQ [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Your seat's label and user guide are the final word.
| Seat | Type | Rear-facing | Forward-facing harness | Booster mode |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Willow, Willow S, Willow SC, Cypress | Infant | 4 to 30 lb, up to 32 in [9] | No | No |
| Poplar, Poplar S | Convertible | 5 to 50 lb, 18 to 49 in [4][5] | 30 to 65 lb, 35 to 49 in [4][5] | No |
| Galaxy360 Slim | Rotating convertible | 5 to 50 lb, 18 to 49 in [6] | 30 to 65 lb, 35 to 49 in [6] | No |
| One4Life, One4Life Slim | All-in-one | 5 to 50 lb [7] | 30 to 65 lb [7] | 40 to 120 lb [7] |
| Grow With You (all versions) | Harness-2-booster | No | 30 to 65 lb, 35 to 49 in [8] | 40 to 120 lb, 44 to 63 in [8] |
Britax's range page lists all-in-one seats at 18 to 63 inches and notes that limits may vary by model because of regulatory changes [3][7].
Marathon and Boulevard ClickTight convertibles don't appear on Britax's current convertible page [3] or in its expiration guide [1]. If you own one, use the weight and height printed on your label and in your user guide, and call Britax at 1-888-427-4829 if either is missing.

The Britax infant seat lineup
Britax's expiration guide lists the Willow, Willow S, Willow SC and Cypress with ClickTight bases (Aspen and Alpine), plus the newer Arbor with its StayTight base [1]. The older B-Safe line is no longer in production, according to the recall report below [10]. For a side-by-side of other makers, see our guide to infant car seats and convertible car seats.
How long is a Britax car seat good for?
Britax counts from the date of manufacture on the serial label, not the date you bought it [1].
| Britax seat | Expires after | Where to find the label [1] |
|---|---|---|
| Willow, Willow S, Willow SC, Cypress | 6 years | Underside, next to the harness slots |
| Arbor | 6 years | Underside, between the harness slots |
| Aspen and Alpine bases | 6 years | Inside the lower connector storage compartment |
| StayTight base | 6 years | Under the StayTight handle |
| Poplar, Poplar S | 10 years | Back of the seat, under the tether hook |
| Galaxy360 | 10 years | Underside of the shell (open ClickTight to see it) |
| One4Life, One4Life Slim | 10 years | Top of the ClickTight compartment, under the cover |
| Grow With You (all versions) | 9 years | Outside of the headrest |
| Highpoint, Skyline boosters | 10 years | Top front corner of the seat, under the cover |
| UpNGo, UpNGo Click backless boosters | 10 years | Top front corner of the seat, under the cover |
Newer Britax seats print the expiration date on the label [1]. For older ones, find the "do not use if older than" line in your user guide and add it to the manufacture date [1]. Britax strollers have no expiration date [1].
When a seat expires, Britax says to cut the webbing and cover, make the serial number and date unreadable, and mark the shell "EXPIRED - DO NOT USE!" before disposing of it [1]. Our guide to car seat expiration by brand compares Britax with ten other makers.

Details on 26C006:
- Britax estimates about 1% of the seats have the defect [10].
- Consumer Reports says you can keep using an affected seat when it's properly installed, but should avoid carrying the baby by the handle [11].
- Contact Britax at 1-888-427-4829, and register your seat at us.britax.com/support/register-product so it can reach you [11].
We didn't see Willow, Cypress, Arbor, Poplar or Galaxy360 seats in any of these campaigns. Still, a model number on your label is the only way to be sure.
After a crash, and other safety checks
Britax says to use NHTSA's guidelines to decide whether a seat is safe after a crash [16]. Our expiration guide lays out NHTSA's criteria for a minor crash. Other makers, such as Clek, replace after any crash (see our Clek car seat guide).
Keep your child rear-facing until they reach the seat's rear-facing maximum. That's the AAP's advice [14], and Britax's convertibles and all-in-ones rear-face to 50 pounds [4][7]. For brand comparisons, see how Graco car seats and Chicco car seats compare on limits and lifespan.

Questions people ask
How do I install a Britax car seat?
With ClickTight, open the ClickTight panel, thread the vehicle seat belt through the belt path and buckle it, then close the panel to tension the belt. Or use the lower connectors. Use one method, never both. Confirm the recline indicator and give the seat a one-inch wiggle test at the belt path.
How long is a Britax car seat good for?
It depends on the seat. Britax infant seats and bases expire 6 years after the date of manufacture. Poplar, Poplar S, Galaxy360 and One4Life seats last 10 years, and Grow With You harness-2-booster seats last 9. Count from the date on the serial label, not the date you bought it.
What is the weight limit on a Britax infant car seat?
Willow, Willow S, Willow SC and Cypress infant seats are for children from 4 to 30 pounds who are 32 inches or shorter, used rear-facing only, per Britax. Check both numbers, because many babies reach the height limit first.
Can I install a Britax infant car seat without the base?
Yes. Britax says the Willow, Willow S, Willow SC and Cypress can be installed without a base with a lap-shoulder belt (with or without the European belt guide) or a lap-only belt. Follow your user guide for belt locking.
Is my Britax car seat recalled?
Check the model number and manufacture date on the serial label against NHTSA campaign 26C006 (B-Safe Gen2, Gen2 Flexfit, Gen2 Flexfit Plus, B-Safe 35, B-Safe Ultra and Endeavours infant seats) and 24C-001 (certain One4Life and One4Life Slim built July 10 to 15, 2024). You can also search your seat at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Do Britax car seats expire after a crash?
Britax says to use NHTSA's guidelines to decide whether a seat is still safe after a crash. NHTSA's rule of thumb is to replace a seat after a moderate or severe crash. Check your user guide and call Britax if you are unsure.
