Britax and Graco seats meet the same federal crash standard, FMVSS 213, so you aren't choosing between a safer and a less safe brand [1]. You're choosing fit, features and how long the seat lasts. The AAP says the right seat fits your child and your car, is installed correctly and is used on every ride [2].

This page compares the makers' own published specs for three matchups: convertibles, all-in-ones and infant seats. For a wider list, see our convertible seat guide and infant seat guide.

Convertibles: Britax Poplar S vs Graco Extend2Fit

Britax Poplar S Graco Extend2Fit

Seat weight 28 lb [3] 19 lb [4]
Width 17 in [3] 19.5 in [4]
Lifespan 10 years [7] 10 years [4]

Both rear-face to 50 pounds. The Poplar S is 2.5 inches narrower, which helps with three across or a small back seat, but weighs 9 pounds more, which matters if you move it between cars [3][4]. Neither converts to a booster. Rear-facing longer is what the AAP advises [2].

Infant seats

Britax's Willow, Willow S, Willow SC and Cypress infant seats take 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches, and last 6 years, bases included [7][9]. Graco's SnugRide Lite LX is also 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches, with a 7.5-pound carrier and a 7-year lifespan [8][10]. That makes the numbers close; the differences are carrier weight, lifespan and which stroller you plan to click into. Our infant seat guide covers more models.

Installation: ClickTight and SnugLock

Britax's ClickTight is a built-in belt tensioner: open the panel, thread and buckle the vehicle belt, close the panel [11]. Graco's SnugLock technology does the same job on its SnugFit and SnugLock seats and on seats like the Turn2Me, installing with the vehicle belt or LATCH. Both ask you to use one method, belt or lower anchors, never both. Lower anchors have a weight limit, so check your manual and switch to the seat belt past it.

How long each brand's seats last

Britax infant seats are 6 years from manufacture. Poplar, Poplar S, Galaxy360 and One4Life seats are 10, and Grow With You harness-2-booster seats are 9 [7]. Graco's SnugRide infant seats are 7 years, and its Extend2Fit and 4Ever DLX are 10 [8][4][6]. See our car seat expiration guide for every maker.

Recalls we found

We searched NHTSA records for both brands on October 16, 2026, and found eight child seat campaigns for each since 2010. New campaigns can appear any time, so look up your model number and manufacture date at NHTSA's recall search [17]. Full lists are on our Britax and Graco recall pages.

  • Britax: Campaign 26C-006 (August 2026) covers 114,660 B-Safe Gen 2, Gen 2 Flexfit, Gen 2 Flexfit Plus, B-Safe 35, B-Safe Ultra and Endeavours infant seats, where a carry handle screw can loosen. NHTSA says the remedy is still under development [12]. Campaign 24C-001 covers four One4Life Slim ClickTight models with an incorrect lower-anchor weight on the label [13]. We found no recall naming the Poplar S or the One4Life ClickTight.
  • Graco: Campaign 26C-003 (April 2026) covers 5,126 SnugRide Turn & Slide infant seats whose carrier can detach from the base [14]. Campaign 16C-002 (2016) put a corrected recline label on Extend2Fit seats made November 27, 2015, to January 20, 2016 [15]. Graco's 2014 campaigns 14C-001 and 14C-004 covered harness buckles that were hard to release, about 4.2 million and 1.9 million seats [16]. We found no recall naming the 4Ever DLX or the SnugRide Lite LX.

Who each brand fits

  • Britax: A parent with a tight back seat or a third child to fit across, who wants a belt tensioner and a 50-pound rear-facing all-in-one.
  • Graco: A parent who wants a lighter convertible or infant carrier, or who already owns a Graco stroller.

Questions people ask

Is Britax or Graco safer?

Neither. Every child seat sold in the US has to meet the same federal standard, FMVSS 213. The AAP says the right seat fits your child and your car, is installed correctly and is used on every ride. Price and brand don't make a seat safer.

How long is a Graco car seat good for?

Graco's Extend2Fit and 4Ever DLX are 10 years from manufacture. SnugRide infant seats, including the Lite LX, are 7. Count from the date on the label, not the day you bought the seat.

How long is a Britax car seat good for?

Britax says infant seats and bases last 6 years, Poplar, Poplar S, Galaxy360 and One4Life seats last 10 years, and Grow With You harness-2-booster seats last 9. The date is on the serial label.

What is ClickTight?

ClickTight is Britax's built-in seat belt tensioner. You open the panel, thread and buckle the vehicle belt, and close the panel. Graco's counterpart is SnugLock on its SnugFit and SnugLock seats, which installs with the seat belt or LATCH.

Which has more recalls, Britax or Graco?

By NHTSA campaign count since 2010, they tie at eight child seat recalls each, though the units differ. Graco's 2014 buckle recalls covered about 4.2 million and 1.9 million seats. Britax's largest were about 213,000 (2015) and 207,000 (2017) seats.

Do Britax and Graco car seats fit in small cars?

It depends on the model. The Poplar S is 17 inches wide and the Graco Extend2Fit 19.5. Rear-facing seats take front-to-back room, so measure your back seat and test-fit in the car before you rely on it.
