The specs side by side

Specs as each maker publishes them; each value links to its source. We don't test or rate products. Checked October 15, 2026. Some links are labeled partner or affiliate links: how they work.

Starting size and rear-facing room

The RAVA is rated from 5 pounds. The Foonf is rated from 14 pounds and Clek says the child must be able to sit upright alone [3][4]. With Clek's separate infant insert, the Foonf fits a child of 5 pounds and 19 inches [3]. If you plan to go straight from the hospital to a convertible, ask a certified technician to check the fit first. Our infant vs convertible guide explains the tradeoff.

Both seats rear-face to 50 pounds. Clek says most children can stay rear-facing until about their fourth birthday in the Foonf [3]. The AAP says to keep a child rear-facing until the highest limit the seat allows [2].

Weight, width and the back seat

The Foonf is the narrower seat at 16.9 inches, and Clek says three across is possible [3]. It is also the heavier: 38 pounds rear-facing and 33 forward-facing, against 26.5 for the RAVA [3][4]. If the seat will stay in one car, weight doesn't matter. If you swap between two cars, it does. Nuna also says its slim design fits three across in most mid-sized vehicles; we haven't tested either claim [4].

Installation and extra features

The Foonf has rigid LATCH for forward-facing installs, and Clek calls its crumple technology REACT [3]. Every seat has a combined weight limit for lower-anchor installs, so check Clek's manual and switch to the seat belt when you reach it. The Foonf also lists a steel anti-rebound bar [3].

The RAVA's True tension doors close over the vehicle seat belt, and Nuna limits lower-anchor installs to 35 pounds rear-facing and 40 forward-facing [4]. Nuna lists a steel frame, side-impact pods and fabrics without added fire retardants [4]. Clek also lists FR-free covers, a metal substructure and a lifetime extended warranty [3].

How long each seat lasts

Clek gives the Foonf a 9-year expiration, and Nuna's manual says not to use the RAVA next past 10 years [3][5]. Count from the manufacture date on the label. See our car seat expiration guide to compare brands.

Recalls we found

We searched NHTSA records for both brands on October 16, 2026. New campaigns can appear at any time, so check your model number and manufacture date at NHTSA's recall search [9].

  • Clek: Campaign 21C-005 (December 2021) covers Foonf models FO12 to FO19 and Fllo models FL15 to FL19 made before May 21, 2021. A child could pick pieces of foam from the cushion under the seat pad, and Clek provides a free molded plastic insert [6]. Clek's other campaigns cover the Liing, Liingo, Olli and Ozzi; see our Clek recall page.
  • Nuna: Campaign 24C-002 covers certain RAVA seats made July 16, 2016 to October 25, 2023, about 608,786 seats. Debris can jam a plastic harness adjuster button, and Nuna provides a free remedy kit [7][8]. See our Nuna car seats guide for details.

Recall ranges are tied to model numbers and manufacture dates, so a seat bought new today may fall outside them. Confirm yours by model number and date, and register the seat with its maker so recall notices reach you.

Questions to settle before you buy

Two questions decide most of this choice. First, does your child need a convertible right away, or will an infant seat come first? The Foonf's 14-pound start makes it a seat for a baby who has outgrown an infant carrier. Second, how many cars will use it? The weight gap, 38 pounds against 26.5, reflects the Foonf's heavier build, so factor it in if you move the seat between cars.

Who each seat fits

  • Foonf: A parent who wants the narrowest seat, a steel anti-rebound bar and a rigid LATCH forward-facing install, and who will leave a 38-pound seat in one car.
  • RAVA next: A parent who wants a convertible rated from 5 pounds, a lighter seat and a 10-year life.

Questions people ask

Is the Clek Foonf safer than the Nuna RAVA?

Neither is safer by brand. Both meet FMVSS 213. Clek publishes extra features such as a steel anti-rebound bar and a rigid LATCH forward-facing install, and Nuna lists a steel frame and side-impact pods. The AAP says the right seat fits your child and your car and is installed correctly.

Can a newborn use the Clek Foonf?

Not on its own. Clek rates the Foonf from 14 pounds and says the child must sit upright alone. With the separate infant-thingy insert, Clek says it fits a child of 5 pounds and 19 inches. Ask a certified technician to check the fit.

How long is a Clek Foonf good for?

Nine years from the date of manufacture, per Clek. The date is on the label on the seat.

How long is a Nuna RAVA good for?

Nuna's user manual says not to use the RAVA next if it is more than 10 years old. Check the label on yours.

Was the Clek Foonf recalled?

Yes. NHTSA campaign 21C-005 covers Foonf models FO12 to FO19 and Fllo models FL15 to FL19 made before May 21, 2021, where a child could pick pieces of foam from a cushion. Clek provides a free molded plastic insert. See our Clek recall page for the other campaigns.

Do the Foonf and RAVA fit three across?

Both makers say their slim designs fit three across in a back seat. The Foonf is 16.9 inches wide and the RAVA 19 to 21 inches, so measure your seat. The Foonf is 38 pounds and the RAVA 26.5 pounds, which matters when you move them.
