Iowa details
On Iowa Medicaid's fee schedules, S9443 (lactation classes, non-physician provider) is payable only to Maternal Health Centers, which provide prenatal and postpartum care and enhanced perinatal services to Medicaid members. S9443 does not appear on the physician, nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, physician assistant, clinic or public health agency fee schedules. The Iowa provider manuals checked (physician, ARNP, FQHC, maternal health center, public health agency, home health) have no lactation consultant benefit or provider type. This differs from KFF 2021, which listed Iowa as covering lactation consultation in all settings; Iowa Health Link MCO benefits were not checked.
