The National Health Law Program reports that a 2025 law (HB 1614) raises postpartum visits from 4 to 6 (10 total) and extends coverage to 12 months. DMAS's own doula page (checked Oct. 9, 2026) still says services are covered through 180 days after delivery. The approved SPA (21-0013) still allows 8 combined prenatal/postpartum visits, and we found no DMAS memo or SPA putting the expansion in place; 2026 bills HB 425 and HB 838 again address it. There's no current total: the only state dollar figure ($859) is from a 2022 flyer. The plan amendment is effective Jan. 1, 2022; DMAS said services would start in spring 2022. More than 8 visits, or services past 6 months after delivery, need service authorization. A mom needs a licensed practitioner's recommendation (DMAS-3100 form) before care starts; no prior authorization is needed otherwise. Most members are in Cardinal Care MCOs, and doulas must contract with each MCO.
