In Idaho, Medicaid pays for one lactation session before delivery and two in the first month after, and certified lactation consultants can enroll and bill directly.

Idaho Medicaid pays separately for individual (CPT 99401-99404) and group (HCPCS S9443) lactation counseling, billed with diagnosis Z39.1, on top of the global obstetric fee; RN certified lactation consultants and other licensed practitioners can bill office visit codes for complex cases. Since May 2025, certified lactation consultants and RN certified lactation consultants can enroll and bill directly (Idaho's provider type is "Certified Lactation Consultant"; the handbook doesn't name a specific credential). Coverage is one session in the two weeks before the due date and two visits in the first month after delivery.
